It looks like some Mac users have gotten a not-so-nice suprise after upgrading from Max OS X 10.5 to Mac OS X 10.6 ("Snow Leopard"). It appears that there are quite a few users out there complaining of receiving an error they have affectionately dubbed the "spinning wheel of death".

Snow Leopard spinning wheel of deathWhat is happening is that, after the upgrade, the affected user experience a boot error where a rotating icon continues to spine and the system doesn't boot.

So far, Apple has only offered this response:

"Your Mac may start up to a gray screen after upgrading from Mac OS X v10.5 to Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard. This may occur if a previous Mac OS X v10.5 software update had been downloaded using Software Update, but not completely installed, before installing Snow Leopard."

So, I'm assuming that the suggestion is to somehow go back and install your updates after you've upgraded?

I'll plead Mac ignorance here.  Perhaps there is a way to do this.  My PC-centric understanding doesn't see how this is feasible.  However, if my thinking is right, I believe that Apple needs to come up with a better response and some real fixes for this issue.
