amd_vs_intel_21At least when it comes to AMD vs. Intel, a truce has been brokered...to the tune of $1.25 billion.

Intel has agreed to pay this amount to rival AMD to settle antitrust claims.  This ends all current legal actions between the two companies. Also, as part of the agreement, the two chipmakers agreed to share patent rights with each other for the next 5 years.

As shared previously on this site, the European Union, in an unusual move, released emails that appeared to be the smoking guns that proved Intel had used some strongarm tactics to block computer manufacturers from using AMD chips in their PCs. I suspect that these bolstered AMD's claims in the court battle.

I don't know what this means in the near term but, for now, fairer competition can resume in the Intel vs. AMD landscape.
