11785_murdoch1_300Okay, they didn't quite say that but in so many words, Google has said that News Corp, or any news organization for that manner, can ask to have their content pulled from Google News.  According to Google, it's fairly easy to accomplish, technically-speaking.

This comes on the heels of threats by New Corp's head, Rupert Murdoch, that he was going to have the content pulled because he felt that Google was making money off it at his expense. Murdoch owns The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and Fox News.  It is no secret that Murdoch wants to take all of the content of his various new agencies and make it accesible by paid subscription only.

However, Murdoch's claims actually fly in the face of logic because, in a Google News listing, there is only a brief snippet of the story and a link to the real story on the content owner's site.

In response, Google said the following:

"Publishers put their content on the web because they want it to be found, so very few choose not to include their material in Google News and web search. But if they tell us not to include it, we don't."

According to Google, listings on its news site generates about 100,000 clicks per minute for a content owner.

Call me crazy but, 100,000 clicks per minute is a lot of eyeballs to who you can advertise.  So, in my book, News Corp comes out the loser in this peeing contest.
