Playstation 3Rumors of a PS3 price cut are like sightings of Bigfoot -- some people claim that they exists but few are ever able to corroborate its existence.

So, once again, we hear that a price cut for the Playstation 3 is coming soon. This time around, it is coming from retailer Gamestop. According to Gamestop execs, it is expected that Sony will drop the price of the system by $100 and this drop will coincide with the launch of Madden 10

Sony has continued to express a reluctance to drop the price of the console, despite it consistently lagging in sales behind the Wii, the Xbox 360 and, at times, even it's one predecessor, the PS2.

Low sales of the console not only impact Sony but, also, game makers.  In fact, recently the CEO of Activision called for a price cut for the system and even speculated about whether it would be in Activision's best interest to keep making games for the PS3, as well as the Playstation Portable (PSP).

We'll have to see what Sony does but, the writing is on the wall.  For the long-term viability of the system, the price is going to have to come down to a more reasonable number.
