Often, government spending is the proverbial "black box" -- no one really knows where all the money goes. Thanks to a new web site, we may see how our money is being spent.
This week saw the launch of usaspending.gov, a new site launched as a result of the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006.
This site shows not only how much money is going out but, also, who's getting it, whether it be from contracts or grants.
Personally, I'm all for putting information in the hands of the citizenry. It helps keep those in power accountable to the people who put them there. Something tells me I'll be bookmarking this site because I am sure that there will be some eye opening numbers here.
