Dell Mini 12 is no moreSay goodbye to Dell's 12" Mini netbook.

The PC manufacturer announced an end to this line of netbooks, opting instead to stick with the 10" and 10.1" versions of the PC.

According to Dell, the 10" version of netbooks is the so-called sweet spot for this type of device. So, they are just going where the market is.

However, I have to agree with the TechCrunch's Michael Arrington in thinking that there were other motivations behind this change.

Arrington cites two reasons that may have prompted this change of heart by Dell:

  1. Intel, the manufacturer of the Atom chip that is used in most netbooks, charges more when this chip is used in devices with screens greater thatn 10 inches.
  2. More importantly, the 12" netbook may have been cannibalizing Dell's sales on it's more powerful (and more costly) 13" and 14" dual-core laptops.

So, goodbye, 12" Mini.  However, I'm sure this will not be the last 12" netbook we'll see in the near future
