It's called the Booklet 3G and will be Nokia's first foray into the ever-increasing netbook market. For those of you who were/are fans of Nokia's tablet PC's, you might be a little disappointed -- this go-round, Nokia is ditching its Maemo OS running on ARM processors for the more standard netbook processor, Intel's Atom, running a pared-down version of Windows 7. When I first read about this, I questioned why they would go this route, given the fact that they carved out a nice niche for themselve with the N770, N800 and N810 tablet PCs running on this platform but, given what they are putting into the Booklet 3G, they appear to be aiming for more than the casual user.

It seems that Nokia may be seeing the Booklet 3G as a good machine for the corporate user on the go. As the name implies, in addition to the standard netbook setup, the Booklet offers 3G networking. However, it goes a few steps beyond the common fare by offering a GPS, a high-def display and a HDMI connection. Additionally, Nokia plans to tie the Booklet 3G in with their Ovi service so, that the netbook will be able to work with other Nokia devices.
Additionally, Nokia is claiming that it will be able to offer a 12-hour battery life for this netbook, which would make it ideal for a user on the go.
We should expect the netbook to be available this fall. Pricing and more detailed specifications are due to be released on September 2.
