What's New:

Coming in December: A chiropractor's dream

It had to happen.  Okay, it didn't have to happen but somebody did it anyway.  Dual screen laptops will be available starting this December. To be fair, you have to give credit to Lenovo for coming out with a notebook with a secondary display. The Lenovo W700DS sported 15.4" primary display and a secondary display that was 10.6" diagonally.  The idea was to use the secondary display to dock certain items and widgets there to provide more working space for the user. At launch, it sold for around $4000.  Now, it's down to about $2000.

But, of course things couldn't stop there, now could they?

Not to be outdone, American manufacturer gScreen will be launching its Spacebook line in December.  The Spacebook ups the ante by providing 2 full 15.4" displays that slide out to sit side-by-side.

The Spacebook offers some pretty decent specs:

  • 2 LED backlit display screens
  • A choice of Windows Vista or XP Pro
  • Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26-GHz
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
  • A choice of an NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GT w/ 512MB dedicated memory or a NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700M w/ 512MB dedicated memory
  • 9-cell battery (which may not be impressive considering it has to power two displays)

gScreen is not putting out pricing information but, I don't see this selling for less than $2000.

Oh, I forgot to mention something about its "portability".  If you plan on buying one, I suggest you begin working out now.  gScreen's mum on the subject but, it's estimated that this thing could come in at 10-12 pounds.  This is not hard to believe as my 17" HP Pavilion is sitting at 7lbs.

Again, this sounds sweet but, just be prepared to kiss your privacy goodbye if you open it on a plane.
